Bharpaai helps you enter a Nepali cash bill into the IRD prize programme. You photograph the bill, check the four values the app read from it, and the app fills them into IRD's own form for you to send yourself.
An independent app
Bharpaai is not made by, endorsed by, or affiliated with the Inland Revenue Department or the Government of Nepal. It is a private app that helps you fill in IRD's own form. The programme's rules, and whether any entry is accepted, are IRD's alone.
Where the programme rules come from
Everything Bharpaai tells you about the prize programme — which bills cannot be entered, how old a bill may be, the coupon code — is taken from the Inland Revenue Department's own pages. Bharpaai decides none of it, and cannot change it. Read the rules where they are written:

The short version
- There is no account and no sign-in. We never learn who you are.
- Your bills, your bill photos and your name, mobile number and address are kept on your phone. We hold no copy of them.
- There is no advertising, and nothing here follows what you do.
- Only one thing about you leaves your phone: the bill photo, sent to be read. It is not kept anywhere afterwards, and your own details are never sent with it.
What the app keeps on your phone
All of this is saved on your own phone, inside the app:
- Your details — the name, mobile number and address the IRD form asks for. You enter them once and Bharpaai reuses them.
- Your bills — bill number, the seller's PAN, the bill date, the total, and afterwards the coupon code and whether you marked the bill as sent.
- Bill photos — the picture you took, kept so you can check a saved bill against the paper it came from.
- Your settings — such as whether you read the app in English or Nepali.
None of it is uploaded to us. There is no account for it to belong to, and nowhere for us to keep it.
On Android the app also switches off Google's automatic backup and phone-to-phone transfer, so these details are not copied to Google Drive or to a new handset. That is deliberate — it is what makes the paragraph above true. What it costs you is written under “Deleting what you have”.
The one thing that leaves your phone
When you let the app read a bill for you, it sends that photo — and nothing else — over an encrypted connection to an AI service, which reads four values from it: the bill number, the seller's PAN, the bill date and the total. Those four come back and are shown to you to check.
Three things about that are worth saying exactly:
- Your own details are never part of it. Your name, mobile number and address do not leave the phone at all. What goes is the photo alone.
- Where you were is taken out first. Phones write the place a photo was taken, the device and the time into the picture file itself. Bharpaai removes that before sending, keeping only which way up the picture is. The shop you were standing in is not sent.
- The photo is not kept. Nothing writes it down and nothing files it away — once the four values come back, no copy of it remains.
Two companies handle that reading for us and do nothing else with it: Cloudflare, which runs the small piece that receives the photo, and Anthropic, whose Claude AI reads the bill. Neither uses your bill photos to teach their AI.
Before any of that, the app checks on the phone itself whether the photo has any readable writing on it, so a picture of the floor is never sent anywhere. That check happens on your own phone and needs no internet at all.
Checking whether your bill won
IRD publishes the coupon numbers it has drawn. Bharpaai reads that public list — the same one anybody can read on IRD's site — and compares it with your coupons on your own phone. Your coupon numbers are not sent to IRD, to us, or to anyone else. The comparison happens on the handset and nowhere else.

What that does involve: your phone has to reach IRD's site to read the list, so whoever runs that site can see that a phone asked for it, as they can for any page anyone opens. Nothing in the asking says whose phone it is or which coupons you hold.
What the app never does
- It does not count what you do or watch how you use it.
- It carries no advertising, and nothing from anybody else that follows you around.
- It does not sell, rent or hand your information to anyone.
- It never asks for an email address, a password, or a way to pay.
- It does not read your contacts, your messages, where you are, or any photo other than the one you pick for a bill.
- It never sends anything to IRD on your behalf. You do that yourself — see below.
The IRD page
To enter a bill, the app opens IRD's own page, prize.ird.gov.np, in a window inside the app. It types in the values you have already checked, so you do not have to copy them across by hand.
The app never presses submit, and never fills the “I am not a robot” box. You do both yourself, looking at the real government page and seeing exactly what you are sending. Whatever you send there is IRD's to hold and handle under their rules, not ours.
What the app asks your phone for
- Camera and photos — only when you choose to take or pick a picture of a bill. The app cannot look through your photos on its own.
- Internet — to have a bill photo read, to open the IRD page, and to read IRD's published list of winning coupon numbers.
Children
The app is for adults entering their own purchases in a government prize programme. It is not meant for children, and it collects nothing from anyone that would tell us their age.
Deleting what you have
Because everything is on your phone, you delete it yourself and it is gone:
- Delete a bill in the app to remove its details and its photo.
- Use “Reset all data” on your details page, or remove the app from your phone, to clear everything at once — bills, photos and your saved details.
Please know this before you remove the app: because Bharpaai refuses cloud backup in order to keep your details off anybody else's machines, nothing can be brought back afterwards. Removing the app, or moving to a new phone, takes your saved bills with it. There is no copy anywhere for us to give back.
Changes
If what the app does with your information changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top changes too. There is nothing to sign up to, so this page is the record.
